POSITION SUMMARY
This EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) Specialist position generally supports Hess ND oil & gas operations and directly supports the Environmental Team. The individual will support assigned operations by applying hazard analysis, technical safety, risk mitigation knowledge and assisting implementation of Hess Exploration and Production EHS standards/policies/procedures as well as applicable compliance regulations. This position requires knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Federal, State and Local laws that may apply to environmental activities across ND. This individual will execute, monitor and create programs as well as provide the coaching necessary to improve frontline EHS leadership, maintain the integrity of EHS processes and promote knowledge sharing across multiple Hess business components. The position requires daily work & oversight across Hess ND operating locations. The individual will also be an instructor for all OSHA and Hess required safety & environmental training topics including but not limited to Pro-Active Driving, Driving Skills and Commentary Drive Assessments, Hess ND Onboarding for new/transferred employees, Hess Rules Competency Assessments and Contractor Orientations.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide safety presence, leadership, coaching and mentoring to business operations and contractors across all arenas of environmental compliance.
Assess environmental processes in the field to identify gaps and coach for continuous environmental compliance improvement across ND operations
Execute, monitor, direct and assess projects and processes including NORM and other waste management opportunities, emergency response operations, hazardous waste removal and site remediation
Oversight/Updates of the ND Waste Management Plan
Oversight of waste facility audits to ensure Hess expectations are met & adhered to
Instructor for EHS Workshops - annual occupational health & safety training, competency training, emergency preparedness, HAZWOPER/emergency response procedures and drills
Lead EHS related events including training, staff meetings, monthly safety meetings etc.
Understand, interpret and clearly communicate federal, state & local regulations as well as Hess corporate standards/policies/procedures working with Hess employees & contractors
Collaborate with other Hess EHS representatives to share best practices, corrective actions, and process improvements
Develop a close working relationship and provide EHS guidance and direction to Hess and contract field personnel
Other tasks as required by ND Environmental Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred minimum of five to seven years of experience in Oil & Gas, with at least five years of environmental operations desired
Radiation Safety Officer qualification desired with experience in proper handling/disposal of NORM
Experience with proper disposal techniques of common oil & gas industry type of wastes (oil rags, vessel contents, NORM, etc.)
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Highly effective interpersonal skills (influencing without authority, working in diverse groups) and an ability to clearly communicate complex issues to non-technical peers, site management and to the community in which Hess operates
Detail oriented with superior organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple large projects at once
Working knowledge of EHS Safety Management Systems, OSHA, NDIC, NDDH, DOT and other applicable regulations to oil and gas industry
Education, Training & Certifications
High school diploma/equivalent required; bachelor s degree from an accredited university desired
Knowledge of OSHA & EPA regulations, general safety procedures
Knowledge of requirements and application of Local, State and Federal EHS regulations, general safety procedures, and hazardous materials transportation and handling regulations
Proficient with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Experience with oil field production, oil gathering processes, maintenance and construction operations
Experience with incident investigation and root cause analyses
U.S. driver s license required
Professional Certifications a plus (ASP, CSP, CHMM, CIH etc.)
Experience with SharePoint, Synergi, SAP, EDMS, ARC GIS and/or Map Source a plus
